GAME ON suggested Tens rules modification
The laws of the game are as RFU Adult and Age Grade Rugby with the following ‘Tens’ variations.

This is only a suggestion for your consideration to enable a worthwhile ‘Tens’ fixture!
Discuss with the referee and opposition captain/coach.
Pitches
• 60m pitch width. (using the line out 5m as touch)
• 90m pitch length. (using the 5m as try line)
o Line out limit near touch is paced out 5 metres by the official.
o Line out limit in field remains the ’15 metre’ (now effectively 10 m)
o Line out limit from the try line is paced out 5 metres by the official.
o 22m line is accepted to be 17m from the ‘Tens’ try line.
o The dead ball line remains as marked, touch in goal is from the 5m to the dead-ball line.
o Post protector pads must be installed.
Squads
• 10-a-side, with the half game rule, every squad player should play at least half a game.
o 5 backs (scrum half, 2 fly-centres, 2 wing-full backs)
o 5 forwards (normal configuration, 3 front row and 2 locks)
• Scrum - 5-man scrum, contested.
• When a scrum makes a 1m advance or 45-degree turn, official calls stop and side in possession presents ball to their scrum half, play on.
• Teams may agree uncontested scrums.
• Line-Out – Comprises a thrower, 3-man or 4-man lineout + scrum half)
• Link man may be a forward or the scrum half.
• Taking a quick throw in is allowed, usual laws apply.
• Teams may agree no lifting or uncontested variation.
o Rolling substitutes.
o One substitute must be a front row or agree uncontested scrums.
o 10-a-side may be reduced to 8, if numbers are short, both sides agree and designate a 3-man uncontested scrum and contested 3-man line out, a back throws in.
Duration
• Two halves of minimum 20 mins each way
o 10 mins halftime break
o 5 min sin bin for yellow card is 25 mins or less halves
Kicking
• Penalty kicks and free kicks must be grubber kicks (aimed at the ground) unless the kicker is within the marked ‘22m’ of the attacking goal’.
o To neutralise blocking of penalty or free kick grubbers for touch,
• the penalty may be swapped for a line out 10m in advance of the penalty on the closest touchline. Possession is retained.
• The free kick may be swapped for a line out 15m in advance of the free kick on the closest touchline. Possession is given away.
• Tap and Go is allowed.
• All kicks at goal are drop-kicks within the ‘22m’, penalties, conversions, and field goal attempts.
o No punting is allowed, tactical kicking must be by a grubber kick, even inside the ‘22m’ area.
o Free kick is awarded against the side that kicks the ball sky-ward, including drop kicks outside of the 22m area.
o A missed drop-kick attempt at goal awards a drop out on the ‘22m’ to the defending side.
• Kick Off and Re-Start is by drop kick by the scoring side at the centre half-way.
• ‘22m’ drop out by the defending team is allowed.
General club rules –
The home team communicates with the official who must be given reasonable notice of a rescheduled fixture, minimum 18 hours if possible. Travel fees may accrue if less than 48 hours’ notice is given.
